To start if you have not yet read part 1, I do recommend you do at some point before or after this post. In my other post How to start a business for free as a teen I really only touched up on the basics of getting started. I din’t say how or when to post or what to post, how to pick a template and a lot of other stuff that I will explain in this blog post. For more tips visit our Facebook and Pinterest.
*My blog has been redirected to teensandbusiness.com I will still be posting on here just not as much as I used to*
On the other post I only talked about wordpress, domains and the set up of your site. In this post I will go into more detail around those topics and other ones to. The first thing I will talk about is why you should invest a bit of money into a domain.
If there was one thing I could spend money on for my site, it would be a domain. To some people it would not matter a domain is a domain so what it actually is does mean anything, of course that is there opinion and there is nothing wrong with that, but I disagree with them. To me a domain is the main reason people come to your site and can find it again. Say you had the wix domain and your site name was good looks good life, your domain would be goodlooksgoodlife.wixsite.com/blog. This is not easy to remember so there is high chance that people won’t come back to your site as they can’t remember your domain. Your content might be the best content ever but if people can’t remember your domain, they may never be able to find your content again, which is a bad thing for both you and them. The best domain extension is .com or .co.uk [if you live in the uk].
The next thing to talk about is the theme that you chose for your site. The theme of your site matters. You will probably be using a free one, but just because they are free doesn’t mean they are bad there are some great free templates out there, you have just got to find them. For my other website, I used the canard theme. It was an ok theme nothing wrong with it or anything, it was just very basic. A one page site with a banner your business name and all your posts, just very simple. You had a choice between 5 different colour combinations and you couldn’t change what they were. This is a good theme if you are not thinking of posting very much, but I do think you could find a lot better. We know free themes are not going to be as good as the expensive ones, but if you look well enough you will be able to find some great themes.
Now to talk about the last topic of this post, Advertising. As I have said I am trying to teach you a way to make a successful site for completely free. Of course there could be minor costs, including domains but I am trying to make the process budget friendly so you as a teen can set up a site. However there is one thing that would usually cost a bit of money, but I have found a free way to do that. I cannot take any credit for finding this way by myself as I didn’t but it is a way that I use and you could use to. As I mentioned before i have a pinterest account. I am not at all rich with followers but it has helped bring traffic to my site for completely free. All you need is a free business account. Male a pin using an image that you used for the post you are advertising [it doesn’t have to be the same image but we recommend you use that.] You can chose to make an add but that costs money, so all you need to do is just post a pin, it might take a while but people will find that pin click on it and visit your website. Instagram, and facebook ads work better, but they can be pricey, so we recommend using pinterest to start off with. Part 3 of this post will come soon. But for now this is it, we hope you enjoyed this post and if you have any questions about anything ask them in the comments. Thanks for reading, The Teens and Business Team.
